How do you measure adoption to raising your own flesh and blood?

Could adoption ever really live up to give birth and / or increase your own child that is made up of your genetics and your significant other? Do you think a parent can never as strong a relationship with an adopted child as their own newborn child, an issue particularly apply to women, given birth is a difficult job with such a priceless reward.
