Points, levels, and the system of the contribution of Top are necessary evils. Without them there would be little or no participation on this site. Although you may think (and you are not alone in this belief) that the system is totally illegitimate and unnecessary, there are many users who are here for the sake of sharing valuable information and be useful to others. So there are many people who have earned their positions of right and just. Human nature is at stake here, of course. People want unnecessary points because they think it makes "Better" on the site, or gives them a higher rank in the standings. It's human nature to want to be better than others. Yahoo knows that is why they offer points / level / TC System for rewarding participation. Of course, there are people who will cheat to get points. Therefore there is a report abuse button and a personal e-mail to be used. If there were no points, levels of NO and NO TC system, you would see almost no people here, because people do not want to spend time answering questions without any reward. The Yahoo plans awards are a pat "on the back" for users to transmit knowledge to others. Thus, while the answer to your question is yes, without the necessary evils of points / level / TC system, there would be little or no participation on the site. However, I can tell you that there are a ton of users here (especially in this category) who have to respond, but never to vote for their own answers when they go to the polls.
